INTRODUCTION
VES Enterprises meets the challenge of providing large-scale rail enthusiasts with an affordable line of 1/24" scale structures suitable for both indoor and outdoor use. All our buildings are shipped fully assembled, painted, and ready for use. Each is individually hand crafted of materials selected to afford years of weather-resistant service utilizing various exterior-grade woods (lauan, cedar, redwood), paints, stains, and roofing materials. Detail parts (doors, windows, etc.) are either wood or molded plastic in styles appropriate to each building's design. While the enclosed descriptions include standard dimensions and colors, custom variations in size, paint, and/or signage are available upon request.
We produce both full size buildings and facades, the latter of which reproduce 1 - 3 building fronts per unit in a package only 2.5" deep. These are ideal for adding interest to narrow places outdoors along walls or fences as well as for use with "around the room" indoor trackage.
VES Enterprises is owned and operated by a serious model railroader with over 50 years experience in scales from "N" through "G". The building designs have been tried and proven via outdoor use on his own railroads in various U.S. climates from north to south, from Atlantic to Pacific. Our primary focus is to assure your satisfaction with these products on your layout.
RAILROAD BUILDINGS
No layout is complete without a Train Station or two. Our Passenger Station is a typical New England prototype with bay front and full wrap around platform. The Freight Depot, has a raised wooden dock on 3 sides and a matching loading ramp in the rear. All platforms are redwood or cedar.
We also offer trackside structures which are ideal to add some eye appeal in small corners and/or narrow spaces between trackage. The Coaling Station and Utility Building, both with cedar exterior construction, are great for branch line or train yard scenes. The Trackside Shanty works well for grade crossings and busy track intersections.
The Engine House/Car Barn is also based on a New England prototype, but could be found almost anywhere on American railroads. The roof-mounted smoke hoods mark it as built for the steam era, but many such structures survived for later use with diesels. Available in one or two stall variations.
SPECIALTY BUILDINGS
The Log Cabin is an eye-catching and unique structure for that remote, rugged corner of your layout. It is constructed of individual pine "logs" over a solid wood base. The full height chimney is made of real rocks and the roof is actual "tar paper" to simulate roll roofing seamed with hot tar. Or perhaps your railroad's pioneers would choose to live in our Rustic Cabin, a cozy little abode finished in stained cedar planking. Our Barn is based on a Pennsylvania prototype and will provide an appropriate centerpiece for your farm scene which could also include our Silos and a Barn Extension which combines a storage shed with an open stall area. Also, be sure to provide plenty of convenient Outhouses on your layout.
Exterior walls of the Livery Stable and Blacksmith Shop are done in natural cedar, which will weather nicely if left outdoors. The latter is detailed right down to shop tools and horseshoes on the workbench with the smithy hard at work by his forge.
WESTERN TOWN BUILDINGS
With over 20 structures to choose from, variety is the key here to build the cowboy town you want with a mix of:
- Large Buildings: General Store, Hotel, Saloon, etc.
- Small Buildings: Sheriff, Café, Dentist, etc.
The Western Town-style structures come with attached cedar boardwalks in front, allowing them to be lined up to portray an authentic cowboy street scene. Separate boardwalk sections are also available to "shape" the street to fit the curves and corners of your layout. A complete Western Town can easily be accommodated within a 48" diameter turnaround loop at the end of a typical garden railway run.
